The Society of Early Americanists Newsletter (SEAN)
The Society of Early Americanists Newsletter (SEAN) features informative material such as letters from SEA officers, announcements about conferences and other professional opportunities, interviews with scholars and editors, and abstracts from SEA-sponsored conference panels. The Newsletter is issued to current SEA members twice yearly, Spring and Fall.
Beginning with Volume 23, Issue 2 (Fall 2011), SEAN’s editor has been Mary McAleer Balkun, Professor of English at Seton Hall University. She is author of The American Counterfeit: Authenticity and Identity in American Literature and Culture and Associate Editor of The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Poets and Poetry. Her other publications include articles on Phillis Wheatley, Sarah Kemble Knight, and teaching with technology. Her current project is a study of the early American grotesque.
Since 2013, Kaitlin Tonti (Raritan Valley Community College) has served as the editorial assistant for SEAN.

Newsletter History
In the Summer of 1989, William J. Scheick issued the American Colonial Authors Society Newsletter, Volume 1, Number 1, serving as editor. In 1992, upon the founding of the SEA, the newsletter was renamed The Society of Early Americanists Newsletter. Scheick continued as editor for Volumes 4.2-18.1 (Fall 1992 – Spring 2006).
Richard Frohock of Oklahoma State University served as the second editor of SEAN, for Volumes 19.1-23.1 (Spring 2007 – Spring 2011).
