We are proud to announce the winner of the 2018 winner: Alex Mazzaferro for his essay, “Compasses and Christians: Richard Ligon’s Political Theology of Slavery”

Mary Caton Lingold, Virginia Commonwealth University, for “Digital Performance and the Musical Archive of Slavery: ‘Like Running Home'” and
The annual SEA essay contest reviews submissions from scholars who have presented at the SEA biennial conference or topical conferences held in even-numbered years, as well as at the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies annual conference or regional affiliate conferences.
